Jean-Charles-Léonard Simonde de Sismondi (1773-1842) was a Swiss historian, businessman and economist. Sismondi and his family lived briefly in Tuscany , where he spent time working the land of his family's farm, inspiring the book "A Picture of Tuscan Agriculture" in 1801. He published subsequent histories of France and Italy. This book is a work of literary criticism on Italian literature from 14th to 19th century, including Dante.
