Vellum soiled, slightly warped boards, but otherwise in good condition. Polydore Vergil was an Italian humanist and scholar. While living and working as a diplomat in England, he was commisioned by King Henry VII to write a history of Britain up to the Norman conquest. Vergil completed the text in 1512-13, which was later published in 1534. The manuscript version appears as 25 books, but in 1521-24 Vergil made a series of additions, expanding the sections into into an eventual 26 books.
