Lacking front free endpaper. Moderate wear and rubbed boards, bumped and chipped edges, soiled pages, small tear to p. 141, but otherwise in good condition. Christian Furchtegot Gellert was a German poet. He studied theology at the University ofLeipzig,where he later became a lecturer in poetry and philosophy. His book, Febeln und Ezrahlungen, first published in 1746, was immensely popular. Gllert's fables were inspired by French poet and fable writer Jean de La Fontaine {1621-1695).
