Bound in full vellum. Title on spine in ink. Original Dutch Edition. 256 p.p., with 10 plates of in-text engravings including title page depecting scenes of naval battles. Lacks folding map and additional folding engraving. Chip to top right corner of front board. Boards rubbed, edges slightly bumped. Faded handwriting mark on front board. Previous bookseller label on front pastedown endpaper. A small tear to p. 85, but engraving unaffected. Damp stains to some pages, but otherwise in very good condition. This book chronicles the account of Second Anglo-Dutch Wars fought by the Dutch Republic and England during the period of 1664-1667 that ended in a peace treaty signed in the Dutch city of Breda. A different edition was also published in Amsterdam the same year by J. Benjamin. This copy Includes lists of vessels and captured goods by the English from the Dutch in America; one of the earliest printed mentions of the name of New York, "Nieuw Jorck" (p.43) [The Dutch Surrender of New Netherland was subsequently renamed New York after the Duke of York, the younger brother of King Charles II). At the time, A description of the surrender of Manhattan to British forces on September 8th. Also describes Dutch Admiral de Ruyter voyage to the West-Indies.
