[1915?] Original pictorial tanned paper boards with colour illustration of a ship battle on front board and a pirate to rear board, quarterbound with Buckrum spine. xvi, 159 p.p. Frontispiece of Captain Avery, plus [7] illustrations of pirate captains, including the famous Captain Kidd and Blackbeard. Dampstain to head of front and rear boards. Scuffing and wear to covers, and edges. Inner hinges slightly cracked. Fraying to joints and spine ends. Pages browned, otherwise interior clean. A good copy. Claud Lovat Fraser [1890-1921] drew extensively from the Fifth Edition of "The History and Lives of All the Most Notorious Pirates and their Crews," originally printed in London, 1735. Fraser updated and adapted the work for modern readers. Pirates deals with the period known as The Decline and Fall of Piracy, from end of the seventeenth century to first quarter of the eighteenth.
