New Edition. Half-bound black leather over marbled boards. Lettered paper label to front cover and red leather spine label. [Year from Preface dated 19th Nov., 1829]. xiv, [4], 721 p.p. Frontispiece illustrating the forms of saline crystals. Includes [1] folding table of the quantities and products of several extracts. The book contains applications in preparing medicines, with reference to the Dublin Pharmocopoeia of 1826, edited by Francis Barker [1773-1859], an Irish Physician and Professor at Trinity College Dublin. In 1810, he established one of the first fever hospitals. Divided into two parts: Part I includes a Materia Medica, with chapters on Acids, Alkalies, Salts, and Sulphurous and Metallic Preparations. Part II contains observations by Dr. Montgomery on Preperations from Plants, including Expressed and Essential Oils, Distilled Waters, Ether, Alcohol, Tinctures, and other curatives. Tear to lower half of p.p. 275, starting at right margin, partially affecting [2] leaves. Small chip to margin on p. 503, text unaffected. Light foxing. Sporadic stains and smudges to leaves. Numerous dog-eared pages. Previous ownership signature in marker on recto of frontispiece. Underlined passages and notes in pencil to pages and endpapers mostly in Part II. Heavy wear to boards and outer edges. Slight bumping at corners. Chafing to front and rear covers. Otherwise a very good copy.
