Dust jacket has several small perforations to front, spine and edges, sunning to spine, small chip to spine head, tear to spine foot. A few pages remain uncut. From the Author's Note: Since the first edition of this book was written, changes, deeper and more far-reaching than any either writer or readers then hoped or feared, have swept the whole world, so that today some of these "peace pictures" seem rather as an idle tale than a sober chronicle. Yet by those who regret the passing of that England they have known and loved, this record of the country side may be accounted not all unworthy of remembrance, nor the two essays (written for this new edition), be found in disaccord with the earlier volume.
