[n.d., ca. 1786]. French. Two volumes. Quarter contemporary brown calf, black spine lable with gilt lettering, Marbled boards and endpapers. Speckled edges. Bindings are tight. Author name inked to title pages. Bookplate of the "Conventus Sti. Bonaventurae, Lovanii. Fratrum Minorum Conventalium" to front pastedown of both volumes. Woodcut head- and tailpieces. Tome I: viii, 362 p.p., [1]. Chip to spine label, some minor loss. Chip to fore edge of FFEP. Stub at p. 16, but pagination and text are continuous per catchword. Tome II: [4], 392 p.p., [1]. Small chip to foot of p. 49. Both volumes chafed to spines, worn at joints, corners and edges. FFEP of both have long tears, more severely to Tome II (almost detached). Small chips to spine ends. Some light staining and foxing throughout, commensurate with age. Ink annotations to lower margin of several pages in a neat script. Authorhsip attributed to Champion de Pontallier by Barbier, Dictionnaire des Ouvrages Anonymes [per WorldCat]. Frere Abbe [Brother Abbot] Francois Champion de Pontalier was a Jesuit philosopher and author in the 18th century.
