The illustrations accompanying this text are from a manuscript of Lancelot du Lac, written and illuminated in northeastern France at the beginning of the fourteenth century and now M. 805-6 in the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York. Ink ownership stamp to foot of half-title. A few very small spots of soiling to front joint and light bumping to spine foot. Dust jacket is sunned at spine and edges, a few bumps. The Arthur you meet in this book is a stranger. He is not at all like the King Arthur you remember from children's stories for from the film Camelot. He is the Pendragon, the warlord of Dark Age Britain who lead his people to a great victory over the invading Saxons and won for them a long age of peace that affected the course of Western civilization.
