Herrad's Horticus Delicarum was a medieval encyclopedic work (apparently the first by a woman), which contained poems, illustrations, and music, and drew from texts by classical and Arab writers. This edition reproduces the plaes and commentary (in English translation) collected and prepared by Canons A. Straub and G. Keller between 1879-1899 under the sponsorship of Societe pour la Conservation des Monuments Historiques d'Alsace. The original manuscript was lost when the library that housed it in Strasbourg was bombed in 1870, but it was able to be reconstructed from copied sources, including from the work on the texts by Straub and Keller.
