First edition, first printing. Full brown cloth, gilt titles to spine, blind stamped filligree to boards. iv, 5-215 pp., 12 pp. ads. Professionally rebacked with original spine laid down. Some discolouration to cloth, a few spots of wear to extremities. Ink ownership inscription to front flyleaf, dated January 1859. Some ink ownership inscriptions to brown front pastedown, some light staining to flyleaves but interior is otherwise clean. Ad tipped-in to ffep for the Ticknor & Fields illustrated household edition of the Waverley Novels, published October 1858. Ads are dated. On p. 124, line 3, it reads "treacherous wine" instead of "ruddy wine," indicating first printing.
