For over three hundred years this place that we call Toronto has been thought of, mapped, visited, occupied, fought over, forgotten, and repossessed. It has been in succession a First Nations village, an English colonial court, struggling frontier town, a factious political area, and an ever faster-growing city whose destiny is impossible to predict.
