It began in the thirteenth century, but was fully elaborated by Edmond Richer in the seventeenth century, and incorporated by Bossuet in a solemn Declaration of the French clergy in 1682. Brunet III 1261. Goldsmith 1719 (listed under Liturgy of the Ancient Gallican Rite).
