A Selection of English Carols
Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1962. Hardcover. 18mo. Near Fine / No Jacket. Item #011107
Orig. green cloth. 279 pp. This edition of one hundred Middle and Early Modern English carols is designed as a representative selection from the whole preserved corpus of about five times that number. The carols are not the hundred best, but are chosen in the hope of giving the reader an adequate idea of the range of subjects, verse-forms, and styles to be found in the carols as a whole. The book is in part an abridgement of the editor's collection published in 1935 and in part a presentation of new material.
