Ethel Greening Pantazzi (1883-1963), former Toronto socialite and feminist, who married Romanian naval commander and later Admiral Vasile "Basil" Pantazzi (1871-1945). Between 1909-1919 accompanied her husband throughout the Romanian countryside, accurately describing the idyllic country she found herself in, along with stories of village life, festivals, customs and traditions including fortune telling and the Romany gypsies. At the outbreak of World War One, Ethel recorded her experiences and those of the Romanian people, including the "little known story of the imprisonment of a number of Romanians by Soviets in Odessa, recounting their dramatic escape and liberation."
