Practiced by the Jivaroan tribes in Ecuador and Peru, the taking and shrinking of the head of an enemy or for ceremonial purposes (Shuar) was done for specific ritual intent. These authentic shrunken heads are known as Tsantas. This book seeks to document the few remaining Tsantas in existence and their provenance after procured by museums and collectors in the 1860s.
