First Edition, COMPLETE. Orange canvas box with two small holes for fabric ties, 302 pp [unpaginated] with three hole-punches, tied into box with shoe-string, profusely illustrated with Destroyers, Nip Notes, Battleships, and Cruisers; to which are added two, unbound in loose-leaf form, 51pp [unpaginated] and 61pp, plus eratta [unpaginated]. Light foxing on pages, some occasional smudges, the stamp 'RECEIVED Dec. 29, 1943, USS MACKENZIE" on rear of supplement number one. Near Fine in Very Good but somewhat soiled and damp-stained box, former owner name in marker on front board of canvas. SCARCE with Supplements. The USS MacKenzie (DD-614) was a Benson-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 July 1971 and sunk in fleet exercises on 1 June 1974. The purpose of the ONI manuals series on the men-of-war of the principals naval powers, according to U.S. Navy Captain /S/ H.C. Train, Director of Naval Intelligence, was to provide for "timely and unmistakable identification and early estimation of target angle, it is believed that they can be of great tactical value." Data containing military characteristics of enemy men of war, and was based upon published material and reconnaissance photographs as seen in the text.
