Italian translation of Cicero's De Oratore. Later half calf, marbled paper boards, burgundy title label with gilt lettering, raised bands. Marbled edges. 8, 8, 176 ff. Giolito De Ferrari's printer's device with a phoenix to title page, to the verso of the finis, as well as a variation at the end of the Tavola. Rebacked, cloth repairs to hinges. Newer endpapers with ink ownership inscription dated 1870. Lodovico Dolce was a Venetian humanist, man of letters and painted, particularly well known for his Dialoge on Painting or L'Arentino. He was a major force in popularization of the classics for the Italian people who could not read Greek or Latin.
