Publisher's decorative cartonnage bindings, textured brown paper rubbed with gilt, embossed Japanese cartouches to boards, red leather spine labels. Textured floral endpapers. 18 ff. each, double-paged (Japanese style, unopened). Lavishly illustrated with B&W line drawings and twenty-eight colour woodblocks by Japanese artists Kano Tomonobu, Kajita Hanko, and Kubota Tosui, under the direction of Pierre Barboutau. Rubbing to binding, worse to extremities, and oxidization to gilt. A few spots of mild soiling. Interior age toned.
