Bound in blue morocco over blue marbled boards, elegant gilt decorated compartments and gilt title, top-edge blue, title in red and black, blue silk ribbon book-marker, viii, 53pp, illustrated with [9] original engravings by French artist Albert Decaris. light foxing and sunning to text-block and endpapers, some image transfer on text from engravings, bookseller stamp on upper left corner of the front pastedown, upper half of front boards, and spine, sunned. Very Good. One of the best engravers of the 20th century, Decaris [1901-1988] was the last personto win an Olympic Gold Medal for Etching and Engraving at the 1948 London Games. La Duchesse de Palliano is the story of Renaissance Rome and a tragic downfall of a family set in political and religious jealousy and intrigue in the reign of Pope Leo IV.
