Publishers brown pebble grain cloth, gilt lettered spine, Gaelic and English facing title page, viii, 9-96pp, Text in Gaelic, publisher ads on end-papers for the year 1884 (heavily toned), owner name on Gaelic title-page in ink, a rubber stamp on rear free end-paper of Upper Canada Tract Society, foxing throughout; boards and edges worn, spine faded and frayed at head and foot. Very Good. Printed from the stereotype plates first laid down for the Edinburgh edition of 1846 for Canadian distribution by the Upper Tract Society, Maclean's Typographia Scoto-Gaelica records impressions of 1,000 copies in 1846 and 500 copies in each of 1862 and 1875. The translation is that of William MacDonald, who first published at Inverness in 1835 and the only Gaelic rendering of Bunyan's treatise to reach print. This volume was bound up from remainder sheets nine years after the original title-page date. A fascinating volume and one of only 500 copies printed in the 1875 impression.
