His Histoires Naturelles, originally published in 1894, was known for its ironic, sharp character portraits that humanize animals and animalize me. Pierre Bonnard [1867-1947] was a French painter and printmaker.He was a founding member of the post-impressionist movement and avant garde group, Les Nabis. This is the first printing of Bonnards illustrations, showcasing butterflies, roosters, peacocks, dogs and snakes with the same ironic affection as the text.
