Peggy Hutchinson's Home-Made Sparkling Wine Secrets

London: W. Foulsham, 1957. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 12mo. Near Fine / Near Fine. Item #017737

The Know How Books Series. Gray cloth, purple lettered spine, 128pp, light toning to text-block, gentle sunning to boards, slight bruising on spine ends. Near Fine in Near Fine d/w, unclipped, jacket faded with faint tears along edges. The third of Hutchinson's wine books, following Home-Made Wine Secrets and More Home-Made Wine Secrets. It offers nearly 250 delicious sparkling wine recipes from fruit, flowers and hedgerow ingredients (yarrow, wallflower and gooseberry), fashioned with a bit of 'Peggy's Magic.' A postwar revival book of English country wine making, which Hutchinson did much to popularize. Patterson's champagne coupe jacket, scrumptiously surrounded by fruit and wildflowers, is a fine mid-century British commercial design, scarcely found intact. Hutchinson recorded twenty five years of cooking and brewing for a busy farmhouse before she became the leading "Household" journalist of the North.
